US trip:- Louisiana and Mississippi road trip.

Very hard to choose which photos to post.
We had a rental car, drove from Jackson Ms. to Natchez, then across the river to Louisiana, stayed at Winnsboro, then drove through the Tensa Wildlife Reserve. Lots of mud on the car, then out into cotton fields and plantation homes. From there to Tallulah which has a prison on the edge of town. A broken town, probably the only town we felt we didn't want to stop and look around, there didn't seem to be anybody about.
From there across the river again to Vicksburg, so much history there, and beautiful old antebellum homes.

North to Yazoo City, another prison on the outskirts, and a juvenile centre right in town. We wandered around, most of the main street abandoned like a ghost town. There were beautiful two story mansions still in good condition, boarded up and abandoned. Made us wonder why.
Life is obviously pretty tough in these small towns. When people asked us where we are from, they would look puzzled and say "Why are you here?"
They were pleased that we came I think, we had wanted to see some of the real south, away from tourism, and it was very special to us.

Then back to Jackson and a greyhound bus to Tuscaloosa - but that's another story.

The old buildings alway fascinate me more than the new. Great shots.

Thanks for visiting Louisiana. You seem to be a wonderful ambassador for our state.

Beautiful shots, but why wash a rental? Obviously, Australians are more polite to rental agencies than those of us in the US.

Lol...We were told by Enterprise to not drive on dirt roads. We did, and I wanted to wash away the evidence! Not that polite, just sneaky.
