After the cruise, we caught Amtrak from New Orleans to Jackson Mississippi. Had a good couple of days, walking the city. Then we rented a car and drove a small part of the Natchez Trace Parkway, between Jackson and Natchez. Nice and peaceful, no commercial vehicles - a good way for Paul to get used to driving on the right hand side of the road. He did well...apart from putting the wipers on every time he needed to turn. I didn't drive...way too scary for me.
The Parkway was great. We pulled into all the turnouts and read the history. Lots of Civil War stories, and Indian mounds, very interesting.

In Jackson, we went into a Cowboy Bar and I ended up singing karaoke for the first time in my life. Luckily, Paul was the only witness - and even luckier, we didn't have the camera.

Interesting photos and, apparently, an interesting location. I'd have really been interested in hearing your karaoke attempt.

Glad you're having a good time. You picked a good place for Paul to practice driving, Have to check with Paul and see if his cell phone was on during karaoke. :)

Ha! It was a funny night. The resident singer was really bad. (Way better than me though) She was out of tune, flat, which was what drew us in from across the street. Had to have a look. We were the only customers., and once inside and they found out we were Aussies, we were stuck. They played Men at Work's "Land Down Under", bought us beers, we ended up having a good night. No other customers though. We were really just going out for a burger, left the cell phone and camera in the hotel. Whew!

Similar experience, without having to sing, in Canada. Here was a Yank who knew their form of government, names of the Provinces (not states), and the capitals of each. I was drinking Guinness the rest of the night for free.

How come you didn't have to sing for your Guiness! Got off easy

Even though it was Canada Day, the pub was somewhat quiet and no singing was happening. I guess I got lucky. Though I have sung with various bands and a Renaissance choir not too long ago.

You would have been ok with the karaoke then Bob. What is a Renaissance Choir?

Sounds like a bucket load of fun, Jude--wish I was there. Nice shots, by the way.

Jude, it is a choir, usually somewhat small in size, that sings Renaissance period hymns and songs. These songs are usually composed between the 14th and 17th centuries.

I would have loved to travel the whole 400 miles. Such a nice peaceful road to drive. Would be great on a motorbike, good for you.

Nice pictures. That first one reminds me of Yogi Berra. "When you come to the fork in the road, take it."
