I found a Soligor Mirror lens F:8 f=500 serial number 58110033. It is very heavy and appears to be in good condition and well made. In the case that I found with it are several filters

Can anyone help me decide what to do with this lens? I would like to know if it is useable or should I give it to someone. It does not fit in with any camera equipment I own. It is for a 35mm and apparently a very good lens made in Japan.

Do you know what the fitting is? It may be possible to get a converter that will allow you to mount it on your own gear. It could be a T-mount lens, in which case you can get a T-mount to fit your own camera.I did that with a Hanimex 500mm mirror lens with a Minolta T-mount that I can now use on my Canon. Results aren't perfect, but some are acceptable.

Incidentally the filters are probably ND filters which fit on the back of the lens and allow you to "stop down".

That lens mount may be for the Miranda camera. Soligor was the lens of choice for their camera. Miranda were made up til 1970s (early), if my memory is correct. Nice camera system. The chief staff photographer, Peter Hickey, of Ganette, Rochester prefer Miranda to Nikon in the middle 1960s.

This is a photo of the mount of the soligor lens. I have an E-500 with a 4/3 connection. If it were possible to purchase a converter, where would I go? I would like to try the lens.

As rocar7 said, it may nave an interchangable T mount, in which case you would get the correct mount for your camera.
I can't tell from your photos if this is a T-mount, though a lot of these are.
Looks like a Canon mount.

Hard to see good, but from the notch in the flange that you can see, I'd say Konica or Minolta, but more likely Minolta due to the notch placement.

Definitely a Minolta mount...To check to see if it a T mount, grasp the mount & try to turn it. If it is a T mount (& I suspect it is as most were that were sold by 3rd Party sellers like Soligor & Vivitar) it will unscrew. Then it 's just a matter of finding the appropriate T mount to fit your camera. Keep in mind that if you do find a mount, all shooting will be in manual mode as you will not be able to change aperture. Not sure about metering without knowing what camera it will be used on (I'm a Nikon shooter & you can get metering on some cameras but not base models)

BTW, I've got a couple of 500mm Mirror lenses. A Korean made Kalimar (total crap) & a Japanese made Spiratone, (better, but not great). Mirror lenses have a very shallow DOF & are hard to nail focus on. Most also suffer from low contrast (correctable in post)& all suffer from weird Bokeh (doughnut shaped)...An inexpensive alternative to much pricier glass super teles, but with limitations. I rarely use mine ( as I'm more into macro)

First I want to thank you for sharing your expert knowledge. It is a minolta T mount because it unscrewed just like you indicated it would. I have found an MD adaptor to an Olympus E-500 4/3 connection. It is inexpensive and I wish to try it if you think it will work. It cost only $14.00.
This will be a cheap solution if it will work.

Great that you will be able to try it out. Most people hate mirror lens images, but I have seen many perfectly acceptable results. Bear in mind that you should use a tripod as 500mm are a bear to hand hold & not get motion induced blur. Also , use live view if you have it to help nailing the focus...BTW, where in Georgia are you ?
