Excellent. I have many images of Kingfishers but none are very good. They are so timid it makes them really hard to capture.

These birds are usually very skittish. I read that it had been hanging around this area and it was kind enough to sit for a portrait.
Linda, those are holes. A little below the bottom of the picture is a water depth scale. The level in the fresh water impoundments is controlled based on what is migrating through.

The bird is a Belted Kingfisher. The last time I photographed one I was kayaking on the Carman's River.
