I have a D7000 and four assorted lenses plus other accessories. It's like having a Masserati and always driving the speed limit. Haven't come near to the need for greater technical prowess. My bad shots certainly aren't the fault of my gear.

But, if someone else wanted to spend $3000 they don't even have nor do they have any Nikon FX lenses, wouldn't it warm your heart to tell them they only live once .... ?

I agree. What if you decided you wanted to finally step on the gas and see what you can do???

You stated your camera, but you never mentioned your lenses. I have one crappy lens I bought around 2009. It cost me $89 new, and it takes crappy photos too. I get better images from my smartphone. Photographic skills, plus good gear are a plus though. Great skills with great gear are even better. There is nothing wrong with GAS, if it does not affect your everyday financial responsibilities. Life is too short not to enjoy it. And I certainly can't afford a D850 either. I would buy a D500 first, because I have lenses for it already.

It is a wise man that knows his tools exceed his skill
And a wiser man to wait until one or the other changes!

I recommend sticking with the D7000, unless you strongly feel the camera is holding you back from getting the shots you want. If you spend money, spend it wisely. Ask yourself if it really is worth the expense to get those occasional images that a new camera can perhaps give you that the D7000 cannot.

I agree with you. The D7000 is an excellent camera and with a good array of lenses it can provide everything that you might need. Others, however, find the need for more powerful cameras, but there is a lot that the D7000 can do.

Chaman, BebuLamar, and Jim Bob. Enough to warm the cockles of anyone's heart. That is, enough to make one feel warm and fuzzy that they're there, wherever that is, and we're not.

I was thinking about a D850 when they run a sale with a free grip. I guess the wisdom of UHH will change my mind.

Funny, when I was a boater I never met anyone who didn't want a bigger boat ... a month after purchasing one. But we could then catch bigger fish and fee the neighborhood, and my in-laws.

Aw, I’m not one for hero worship. But thanks for the kind words. The Guru is touched.
