Clearwater has beautiful beaches, especially the Sand Key beach is probably my favorite. Others are really well maintained and nice as well. There's a downtown with cute shops/ice cream places to get something refreshing. Also, the aquarium is right next to the main road to all of the beaches so it's right there. Isn't spring break in March? If then you'll definitely meet some college kids, but they've never been too much of a problem. Really recommend going.

There is plenty to see and do in Clearwater, with the country's most beautiful beaches on the top of the list. This is why it is a mecca for spring break for college students!

Clearwater is nice and Sand Key beach is usually less crowded and has better/easier parking than Clearwater beach. They are doing more, though, at Clearwater Beach for the night-time activity now than before (I think they are trying to make it more 'Key Westie') which can be fun. However, if you are coinciding your trip with spring break and hoping to avoid crowds, don't. I don't even go down to the beaches at spring break because of the crowds/traffic (vehicular and pedestrian). It gets crazy. You will be close to the Aquarium (it is just off of the main road) and their is no shortage of restaurants on and near the beach. If you decide to take a drive, go south along the coast, it is a nice ride and the seabird sanctuary is at Reddington Shores along with some secluded and beautiful beach accesses and scenery.

Also look at the south end of Fort Myers Beach (not the north end)--it, too, has the qualities you’re looking for, as well as easy access to Bonita Beach. If you’re there, it’s also an easy trip to Sanibel Island and the bird sanctuaries there.

I grew up near Clearwater Beach which is one of The best beaches in the state of Florida. But if you want a wonderful beach that is little more quiet with Great restaurants and sunsets. Go to Redington Beach which is south of Clearwater Beach and stay at the Doubletree Hotel.

Everyone should go to Florida for the winter. That leaves North Padre Island peaceful for us.

St. John's Pass, a few miles south of Clearwater. Beautiful place within short drives to places of interest.

My wife & I were just in Dunedin (near Clearwater) a few months back and it what you are looking for. I'm attaching a link to some images from our vacation. I'd suggest Honeymoon island & a visit to the Florida Botanical Gardens in Lagro as well. both are close by...

If you like beautiful beaches try Pass-A-Grille or Fort DeSoto just south of there. Also downtown St Petersburg has many nice museums and restaurants. Tampa also has a fantastic aquarium. Lots of great photo ops here.
