A neighbor of ours found this camera in her attic, covered up, and in mint condition. She is giving this to me free of charge. Have any of you ever owned this camera and, if so, what is your opinion of it? Thanks!

I bought one years ago (circa 2004) and still have it! I will not get rid of it until it breaks.
The H1 does a great job on saturation and it will focus down to 2cm. Not a typo, two centimeters. The only problem there is getting light to the subject properly. Here are some examples. I'm not sure if I can find a real close-up shot example easily. It will NOT run with alkalines, it requires NIMH batteries. There is a limit to the memory card that you can use, 4Gb I believe.

Addendum- A Florida attic can get over 140 degrees in the summer. (Which is most of the year. I used to live near Orlando.) Some stuff stored up there died. How long was it there? I'd try to put freshly charged NEW NiMH batteries in it and see if it still works.
Let me know how you make out.

Thanks. I saw this review and thought it was given a decent endorsement. The sample images looked good, so I thought I would ask for hoggers' opinion based upon their use of it.

I have no idea how long it was stored but I do know it was air conditioned. Attic might not be the appropriate word but it was the upper level of the house, unfinished, and required a ladder to get up there.

Thanks for writing about your experience with it. Pretty decent photos, too!

Wow! That's an oldie! I found the same DPReview link as bsprague.

Enjoy it and post some shots.
