Thanks for all the replies. I don't think it's age deterioration. It's only about 4 years old. The case it's kept in is nicely cushioned. Since I travel with it in my carryon, it's packed at the top where other items won't be on top of it in order to avoid physical pressure. I'm careful with that. Although I haven't stored the camera outside, I have traveled with it going from cold to warm temperatures. Yet I don't consider 32 degrees to be extremely cold. When I have shot outdoors, I've waited when returning indoors for the camera to reach room temperature before using it. Again I don't think these are temperature extremes. I'll live with it. It's obviously not the sensor since the photos are okay. I'm probably just a little nervous because I previously had two small compact P5100 cameras which from what I learned was known to have sensor problems -- in those cases, the screen looked totally different (rainbow streaks) and the photos looked the same.
