Sorry, I couldn't put this post below the picture posted.

This above picture is the only image I have that is suitable for this occasion. As mentioned in a previous post, I will give an explanation of my thought processes as I created this picture. This shot was taken in Dallas in March 2010 when I was there for a work meeting. I saw these giant flag poles and flags flapping in the wind in the city near the municipal building that looked like an inverted pyramid. I liked the saturated colours of red, blue and white and the different designs of the flags against the plain blue sky. I needed something else in the picture to give it scale, to show how huge these flags were. I changed my position several times to get different buildings in the shot but this view point showed up the 3 flags to their maximum effect and the white AT & T building some streets away, another American icon. I don’t think I succeeded in showing the scale of the flags but the position of the building adds to the design element. I shot it with my Canon EOS 350D (equivalent to the Rebel XT), 18-55mm kit zoom lens and a polariser filter to saturate the colours. The focal length was zoomed to 30mm (ie 30mm of the lens x 1.6 crop factor = 48mm) to avoid unwanted elements in front of the AT & T building, ISO was 400, a high shutter speed of 1/1250th to freeze the flapping of the flags and my hand tremor, and a resultant aperture of f4. The original file format is RAW. I shot several images as the flags flapped in different positions as the wind changed and this image showed the 3 flags best.

Whilst I am on the topic of America, I also attach 4 images of skyscrapers in Dallas. I particularly looked for buildings that had some structure in the foreground, again to give it scale and depth as well as another element of interest that captures your attention before leading your eyes upwards to the top of the building. I also looked for buildings that had an interesting façade. The focal length of the lens was 18mm, with ISO between 400 to 800 depending on time of day, varying shutter speeds and apertures between f5.6 and f11. I selected these 4 images for a club competition that is coming up. The competition asks for 4 images that together has a theme and tells a story. As the images were not too exciting as shot, I decided to jazz them up by manipulating them in Photoshop. This was easily accomplished by applying the Solarise filter and then increasing the saturation to the maximum. Its amazing the different results you get with each image. The title of my entry will be ‘Surreal Skyscrapers’.

WOW! I love the buildings and vibrant colors. I do believe the first one is my favorite, but I am not sure why I like it best......

chinaman, I am totally mesmerized by your "jazzed-up" solarized skyscrapers. I found myself just coming back to them over and over and just starring at them... I bow to you.
