I'm a little late to the party but I have some thoughts about this amazing picture. I think it could be a scene from a sci fi movie. I can imagine the aliens just on the other side of the mountain where they live in the worst of elements to take over all mankind. Did I take it a bit to far?

Okey so I took a good look before I found out what you really did. I was sure you replaced the sky because of two things. I didn't believe the mountain tops on the left would be that bright with the sky being that dark even with the lightning. I also saw some brush strokes at mountain top edges. I was quite sure you added the man in the picture because he was so dark. Now knowing you didn't, did you add black or exposure to him that through me off?

I took your picture and replaced the sky to see how it might have looked on the original picture. It then looked more natural, although I understand that is not what you were going for but it made me feel better that I did understanding what you did.

If I understand correctly you did replace the sky and then added lightning bolts. If this is correct you did a superb job blending them in.

Having said all this I am not knocking your work. You did a fine job and you can sell it as a book cover in an up coming sci fi thriller.
I'm a little late to the party but I have some tho... (show quote)

Yes Jim, you did arrive at the party a little late! This thread is dying rapidly! The cat is out of the bag and the UHH members are moving on. I will tell you to look on page 9 of this thread and you can see what the original looked like. I feel good about enhancing an average photo and making it something special. The sky with lightning bolts were another shot that I added, and the bolts came with the sky. The figure was always on the photo (see page 9) and I did not do anything to the figure in PP. Thanks Jim for your in depth analysis of this image. I'm glad you had fun with it.

Here is an intense photo with dramatic weather. Please download this one.

Awesome! When I was hippy teenager I had the pleasure of hitchhiking and camping through there. The thunder storm really sets it off.

Mike, I will keep em coming! A couple negative comments here and there won't stop me! It's the beauty of being retired, I don't have to answer to anyone but myself! No clients to tell me what or what not to do! Mike, I'm an artist FIRST and a photographer SECOND so the creativity part is fairly easy for me, especially composition. There are other artists here on the UHH that have similar thoughts.

Thanks so much waegwan. Now waegwan, you know the thunderstorm was added in post production, right?!?!!? It was raining when the shot was taken but no lightning or thunder.
