My neighbor's wife has Alzheimer's and can no longer function on her own. He was a career Marine and was told there is no help available through the VA. I will pass this along to him. Thank You.

He definitely needs to check - I am not 100% positive, but I think she would be considered the recipient of this benefit and unless SHE is a veteran, your neighbor probably can't get Aid and Attendance assistance. Sadly our society is not geared to really help people in this situation who might still be able to keep their loved one at home. If he isn't familiar with his local VA Clinic, he can call and ask to speak with one of the service officers or one of the social workers to get details about this benefit.

My Father served in WWII in Europe and my Mom (not a Vet) lives in an Assisted Living centre due to dementia and she gets a benefit monthly. There are some income and asset limitations to satisfy but she qualifies due to his service(he is no longer living and I do not know how that figures in)
Thank you John. I am a 30 year veteran who retired in 1985. Although in very good health for an 83 year old, this is something to keep, just in case. Much appreciated.
