30 million Americans are getting some bad health news. They now have high blood pressure. The New Guidelines are 130/80, and not 140/90 as before. If your blood pressure is between 130/80 and 140/90, your doctor will say you have Stage One Hypertension. Those above age 65 should be watchful of their blood pressure. There are numerous articles on this recent news. So, I would recommend a Google on this topic. Just Google "New Blood Pressure Guidelines.". www.google.com

I'll take this with a grain of salt! Medical BS to sell more high pressure blood medicine. It's more about the money. Do you remember eggs, first good for you then bad for you then good for you. My doctor told me that I needed to get down to 165 lbs. from 175 lbs. and I'm 5'9" and that I was obese from his newest test info. I ask to see it and he had put in the wrong date of birth and he was going to leave that info in tact. I told him to change that because it would throw off the statistics. BTW, that test is not valid as soon as you turn 73, so go figure. Have you also noticed that so many more doctors are now pushing statins. In Europe they don't even talk about cholesterol and here in America it's a billion dollar item or more. Have you never wondered about the FDA, what drive them, money . My doctor gets a strange look on his face when I tell him that no one is getting out of here alive and that no one is going to live forever. Some people live to eat, I eat to live. Have a good life, I know that I am.

Yes. I remember many years back, they said the diastolic was the most to be concerned with. Especially if was at 90, or over. Then the systolic became the most to be concerned with, if it was over 140. Now it's 130/80. And yes, I do remember the egg scare being associated with giving you high cholesterol. Shell seafood too. I have a home blood pressure monitor. That way, I don't have to visit the Nurse's Clinic, to get it done. And, of course they always check it at each doctor's visit.

Among other illnesses as well. Dr. Gupta of CNN News did a TV special on the many medical issues that have been reduced by marijuana. The problem now, is that supporters of marijuana, are saying that marijuana can cure cancer. False advertising.

They can still calibrate these blood pressure monitors to 120/80 whenever I come in and put on the cuff.

Did you mean 120/80 or 130/80?

It was 120 over 70 for decades. But now people so bad they raised to 130 over 80 to make them feel better.

Seems like years ago, the BP goal was 110 + your age.....and I'm 68. lol

As a kid, I played with metallic (liquid) mercury, rode my bike without a helmet, drove cars without seat belts or airbags, drank water out of the garden hose, ate unwashed fruits and vegetables out of the garden.... Just sayin'

Many things can cause your blood pressure to rise. Stress, sodium intake, weight, and family history of heart attacks and strokes. Not all are affected by this. I know skinny people, lean, no body fat, and they eat nutritious meals, who have high blood pressure. That baffles me. Blood pressure fluctuates. But if it was steady at let's say, 150/95, I would definitely be concerned. And would see my doctor soon. I have my own pressure monitor.

I was visiting an elderly friend a couple of years ago. ( He'll turn 100 in January!) He has been a staunch Democrat his entire life and Fox News was on his TV
when I arrived.
I asked, "Monty, you're watching Fox News. Whats with that?"
Without missing a beat he replied, " whenever I feel my blood pressure dropping and/or is too low, I just watch this for a few minutes and everything is soon back to normal".
He's a funny old guy.

That's exactly what RRS said in an above thread.

Now a million more people will over-pay for proscription drugs to bring the Drug suppliers stock up. Motivation of this is what I question.
