Ok members So, I have been contemplating on buying a Nikon d7200 ( an upgrade from d90). All my lenses are dx But, I read that a d750 ( which is a FF), has a sharper image than a d 7200 .I understand that the 750 has a 20.4 MP compared to the 24.1for the d7200. If I choose to buy a d500 or even a d 750, that means changing all my lenses right? Please advise. Thanks

No, the D500 is a DX camera also, a very good choice.

If you have a significant number of DX lenses, it would be much less expensive to get a D7200 or D500 body. The D750 choice would require FX lenses.

If you want to *trade* everything and get something else, that opens up your options to full frame, Micro 4/3, or other brands of APS-C cameras (or anything, for that matter!)

Walking away from a D90 and a couple of lenses might be fairly reasonable, depending upon what you can spend. A LOT has happened since the D90 was released.

Don't get too wrapped up with articles/opinions until you basically decide what most of your shooting will be and than ascertain what type of camera will be best suited to fulfill your needs. I believe that most of us can use a DX camera to do just about anything we want. A D7200 is an excellent choice that many here will attest to.

Actually, no. The newer FF Nikon camera will recognize the type of lens (DX or FX) and will automatically adjust (crop) in order to use a DX lens. This of course results in less pixels to use.

A D500 being a DX camera, there is no issue with your lenses. It also is the top of the Nikon DX line, far superior to the other (FF) cameras you are considering. It is even better than the D800/D810 but in pixel count. The D850 being now the top the FF line in semi-pro cameras.

One thing that put people off: the D500 does not have a flash.

The D500 price can be another issue depending on your budget.

I have a D-750 and you can shoot in DX or FX Mode If you use a DX lens the camera will AUTO DX.

Thank you for your reply. Now I am thinking IF it is advisable for me to get a d 500 or even a d 750 since I am only going to shoot portaraits, landscapes, etc. I am not going to shoot weddings ( as in professional) . and my Nikon 18-135, a 70-200 and 50 mm 1.8 have been sufficient till now. I think a sigma 85 mm would be a good addition rather than going to a FF camera. What do you all think?

I was only thinking of a d 500 for its good sharper image. But then again I can get that by spending a little more on a good lens correct?

You can probably get sharper images with good solid techniques using your existing lenses.

I really think the cameras that don't have an anti-aliasing filter in front of the sensor produce images that are a little sharper than cameras that have the anti-aliasing filter. I done comparisons myself using my D500 (no AA filter), and a D750 (has AA filter). The D500 images were clearly a little sharper. The D750 had slightly lower digital noise at very high ISO settings. I've done comparisons with other cameras also.

I'm interested in full frame but will wait to see the D760. It's a good chance that it will be announced at the upcoming CES show Jan. 9-12.

If I'm not mistaken D7200 was voted the best APS-C camera after its release about two and half years ago.

Identify the genre of photography you prefer and buy accordingly. This is a bit of a generalisation but does work: if you are a landscape or portrait photographer go for the D750. If you are a wildlife or action photographer go for the superlative D500.

I think you are mixing D750 and D7500. The D750 is a 24.3 megapixel full frame camera and a very good one. The D7500 is a 20.9 megapixel DX camera and a very good one. The D7200, D500 and D7500 all are DX cameras and your current lenses will be perfect on any of those. If you go to the full frame D750 you would have to upgrade your lenses to get full use of the camera.
