Hello,

I purchased a new Dell Monitor last year and I finally put it up.

At the last meeting of my photography group it was discussed that it was a very good idea to have color calibration software.

Anyone have any suggestions to which one of the free monitor color calibration software my be good?

Thank you

free = none

But, what model of Dell monitor? It's possible new top line technology is calibrated out of the box.

I've never calibrated a monitor, but then, I don't print a lot of photos. Here are some links, but there are lots of others on YouTube.

You can not calibrate the monitor with only software. You need some sensor to measure the color and light intensity from the monitor. If you buy the sensor they give you the software.

It's been a long time since I installed Photoshop so this may no longer exist. During setup they would show a screen with a number of versions of the same image. When you selected the image that looked best it created a profile that was set every time you started the computer.

All displays are factory calibrated. But settings drift over time, and I don't know of a single display that doesn't benefit from monthly profiling.

There are no free tools to do this. But there are quite a few free tools to check if your display is in need of profiling. You need to profile to a known standard, and the free stuff doesn't do that.

I'm not aware of any free calibration software!

No that is not correct, very, very few monitors are factory calibrated!

Can any decent monitor be calibrated? I have an ASUS that has good color, but not sure if it can be calibrated with the proper tools.

Somewhere I saw a utube that showed how to calibrate a monitor with a cell phone taped to the monitor. I looked to find it but struck out, maybe you can find it.
