Who are the Photographers from the Past (or the present) whose work you've most liked, and why?

Have you emulated any of their work? ... If so, would you care to share it with us, and tell us which works of theirs, they emulate?
I just checked a book out from the library by Art Wolfe. “The art of photographing nature”
So far my favorite photos from any photo books. What a talent.

Okay, Tom ... Art Wolfe ... got it ...
Does he say in his book what hardware he uses?
Or- doesn't it really matter?

Not emulated (that's copying IMHO) but inspired by. Here's two for starters.

Right, Richard ... emulate - means copying ... but, it's broader than that, for it opens up the possibility you could better the original ....
As you seem to've done, indeed ... with your Henri Cartier-Bresson emulation ....
But, the Snowdon one ... not really sure ... there's a lotta work out there, similar ....

The book is from 1993. So I’m not sure. Plus I have only looked at the photos.

1993, Tom?
Pre-Digital Revolution, then ... virtually ....
Chances are, then ... it's all mostly film work ... perhaps, all LF ....
Gotta be something in there ... check both the front pages, and the back pages ....

I own a couple of Art Wolf videos from Creative Live and nowdays he uses Canon gear. From the videos the brand doesn't appear to matter.
What matters is lots of MP, good high ISO performance, image stabilisation, and fast consistant focussing..

5D S R then, probably, now ... wonder what he used prior to 1993, though ....

More than just one body and think what would you use if you wanted to shoot BIF etc.
In the long distant past view cameras (4x5) (from the video).
Past Photographers: Brassai, Andreas Feininger, Eugene Atget, and Anton Giulio Bragaglia.
Current Photographers: Hiroshi Sugimoto, Michael Kenna, Bill Schwab, Sally Mann, Dornith Doherty, Gregory Crewdson and Todd Hido
While I have not emulated their work, it has informed how and why I create my work.

I think some of the most moving images are from the Depression and Dust bowl eras... Dorothea Lange pops into folks minds with Iconic images like " Migrant Mother ". I really like Images captured by Arthur Rothstein during the same periods such as " Farmer and Sons in dust bowl " and "Young boy in dust storm". These are all moving Images that really capture the moment...
