It is probably one of three things in the following order of probability:

1) Someone moved the diopter adjustment wheel on your eye piece. Try adjusting it while looking thru the viewfinder. Easy peasy.

2) The viewfinder is dirty of fogged on the outside. Clean like you would your lens. Easy.

3) You mirror has somehow become dirty (unlikely without the sensor also suffering similiar comtamination or condensation) and a more difficult thing to clean. Unless you know what you are doing, best left to a pro.

I'm betting 9 to 1 odds on the diopter adjustment (#1 above).

Mine did the exact same thing after I dropped it.....I was braced for the worse....took it to be repair.....tech adjusted the diopter and looked at me like "Duhhhhhhhhhhh"
That was OK though as there was no charge and camera works great

I'm glad it was #1!
Go forth and shoot a foggy day with clarity!

I'd like them to make that harder to move accidentally. Sometimes I look through the VF and have readjust the diopter. It's too easy to move it by mistake (not that I'm saying I make misteaks). :D

I'm never going to say that either, especially when it comes to spelling.
I worry that my little "misteaks" may become big mistakes.

Sorry Jerry, the devil made me do it!   :-D

Your lucky if it is only accidentally moved, I have diabetes and my eye sight changes from time to time so I need the diopter wheel allot. Some times I thank Nikon put it on their camera just for me. LOL

Another (stupid)example of getting what you pay for.....and evolution of DSLR

For adjusting viewfinder to your eyes on D800 you MUST pull out that little wheel out and after adjustment push it back.

Yeah i know, nonsense. But it show that manufacturer is responding to little known problems

I had that problem. Judiciously applied "White Out" makes good alignment marks. All it takes is a glance, to know if you are focused.

I hope you adjusted your diopter, if the standard one is not strong enough to suit you needs their are others available in different strengths from most of the usual suspects Canon Nikon.
Overlay does not mean you have to leave the bubble wrap on your camera and lenses as protection.

Diopter adjustment.

An easy way to adjust the diopter is to remove the lens and look at the focus "brackets" or boxes on the viewscreen. Some cameras may have 1 others 3-5. Adjust the diopter setting until they are sharp.
