RawPower (Mac Raw Engine) Apple Aperture.

RAW Power helps fill the pro tool void left when Aperture was discontinued by Apple. For fans of that app, RAW Power is a great solution because it will be familiar and extends the functionality previously available in Aperture.

Gentlemen coders is the name of the company set up by nick bot who was one of the main coders behind apples aperture. After apple did away with aperture nick set up gentleman coders and developed raw power to harness the power of Apples raw engine.

It essentially gives back the raw processing power that was in aperture and is unable to be accessed directly in apple photos.

Gentlemencoders rawpower

Is a great little App and extension and is even available for the iPad.

There really is only one draw back to this incredibly cheap application in that it requires osx 10.12 or better that is Sierra or High Sierra.

It's worth watching the review video anyway to see what it has inside. Some of the curves techniques can be applied manually to other raw processors.

It looks very good, it's designed similarly to aperture. The video review is worth watching to see how boost is used. By reducing boost its possible to recover more highlight detail. The only disappointing thing for me is the requirement for Sierra. However aperture 3.6 works on yosemite and the controls are very similar as you'd expect really since the lead developer for aperture has gone on to write raw power.

The Mac raw engine is quite different to Adobe Raw and in a good way.

I watched the video and I'll be damned if I could see where the controls made any difference on the washed out wave. Can this program be used in conjunction with Canon DPP4 or does it have to be used with Mac Photos??? Although I'm not thrilled with DPP4, I don't plan on using Photos either,

I could see he managed to pull back some detail to the wave and also how boost fights against the highlight recovery pulling down the boost level certainly allowed detail to start showing up rather than the muddy gray that was being shown without the boost being lowered. It was better than before.

Rawpower does bring back some of the control that aperture had that photos doesn't, if it isn't enough for you thats your choice. For $15 it is great value.

Maybe Affinity Photo might suit you better. RawPower can be used standalone but it isn't a complete workflow in itself.
