I think of selling my Nikon 20-35 and buying Tamron 24-70 2.8. Will this move be advantageous?

The Tamron 24-70 F2 is a fine lens. Uses 82 mm filters.

The Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 lens, before the G2 version came out, was rated in third place behind Nikon and Canon, by pro photographer Matt Granger. And the G2 is better than the previous Tamron version.

It depends on the format. I used my Canon 20-35 on my 35mm a lot. Especially for Real Estate interiors. With an APS-C format, it is an OK walk around (FF equivalent of 32-56mm lens, but awkwardly long on the short end and awkwardly short on the long end) for APS-C. However I DID do a Wedding Reception and Family shots with it and they were good.

I've upgraded to a 17-70 stabilized zoom and that covers 90% of everyday shooting opportunities and the 20-35 sits on the shelf waiting for its EOS 5 or 6 version to descend from Grand Benevolence.

Why go from super sharp to ok sharp? And go from metal to plastic? And from quality to ?.

This review of the Tamron uses the word "great" nine times.

You're giving up a lot on the wide end by going from 20mm to 24mm. Personally, that would be a problem for me.
