Here on the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia, heard on the news that the International Space Station carrying 6 astronauts would fly over at 7.30pm. Outside watching, had my eye on a bright star, trying to see if it was moving, then happened to look directly up and there it was. Bright light, moving quickly, and gone within about 20 seconds. Tried to get a photo but no luck. Quite exciting to see, and imagine 6 people in that bright white light, hurtling through space.

You sound as excited as I was to see Sputnik back in 1956/57!?

You can actually sign up free at NASA website - spot the station:

https://spotthestation.nasa.gov/signup.cfm

which will tell you exact time the ISS would be above the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. I have been watching the ISS from here in the USA for more than a couple of years now. The previous day I get an alert from NASA via my e-mail the exact time it will be over my location and you could do the same for your location too. You could be prepared with your camera at that time and hope you could get a picture next time.

I've watched for and seen it a few times. Each time I had the same thoughts as you. There are people living on the little fast moving bright light.

Sputnik. I remember the talk. Was that Russian? I saw Haley's Comet when I was about 13. Not a space ship though of course.

It will pass over anywhere on earth five or six times a day. Not always visible. Several sites on line to help you find it. For us in southern nz an excellent sighting last week, Thursday I think. No more for a few weeks. Last great I saw it four times in one night.
