Crazy bokeh from a hybrid lens

So I "inherited" a Dallmeyer Octac 80mm f1.5 Oscillograph--an old lens used to shoot CRT traces. Problem is that what I got was only half the lens, the front element group. I was thinking that was probably useless, but then decided to try an experiment. Several years ago I bought another oscilloscope lens for experimenting, an Ilex Oscillo Paragon 56mm f1.2, which is of similar construction to the Dallmeyer--two halves that screw into a shutter. That lens proved to be pretty useless, because the maximum focus distance I could achieve gave me about 1:1 macro. I wondered what would happen if I mated the Dallmeyer front with the back group from the Ilex.

Well lo and behold. It's pretty amazing. It's turned into a 56mm f1.2 hybrid that I can focus to infinity if necessary, although like all Oscillo lenses it doesn't look very good past a couple of feet. But the sweet spot is really sweet IMO. Have a look and see what you think. These are some autumn-themed first tries with the beast.

Very cool, maybe you should figure out how to manufacture this lens and go into business.

Really different bokeh and although I have never been a fan of out of focus shots these have a certain appeal.

Reminds me of impressionistic paintings. I would have thought that it was pp effects.
