I have a new windows 10 laptop, and even thought I've posted heaps of photos in the past, I'm confused about resizing with this new computer.
I'll add a photo, original as copied from my camera, and my attempt at resizing to "small". I'd appreciate some help with what is best for UHH, should I do something different?
The top one is original, the bottom resized.
Thanks.

I do not understand. What is "small" as far as resolution to you? I export JPGs from Lightroom 3000 pixels on the long edge @ 300 dpi and never had an image rejected as being "too big."

Your re-sized is 640x480 px which is certainly fine for thumbnail viewing or if there is no particular need to see detail enlarged. I did a main forum topic awhile back in which many folks said they re-size to between 1500 and 2000 pixels on the wide side. That gives people the opportunity to download and view larger than the thumbnail size.

If the Win 10 app you're using has small, medium and large, try a medium for UHH, or add it to this thread and we can determine its width.

You can post up to 22 mb of files, I believe, in one UHH thread. However, there is rarely a reason to keep your original dimensions (which were 4000x3000 on the first photo above), for two reasons:

1. Most people here are not viewing on extra-large monitors or have no need or desire to pixel peep.

2. The larger the file, the easier you make it for someone to steal and print

Here is the topic I mentioned:

Some programs if you select for email or web give you a choice of small, medium, or large. The may, or may not, give actual dimensions.

Ok, thanks for that. I'm not up on a lot of the photographic jargon, so I'm still a little confused. I will post another photo, using the "medium" option. I don't have Lightroom, or Photoshop etc.
Not a fan of Windows 10, and I used to love Picassa but it is now defunct.

Is this a good size for posting on UHH? Would appreciate your thoughts. Jude.

Not sure what you're looking for.

Copied from the Photo Gallery's section rules:

- Maximum dimensions for images are 600x800. So if you want to post a crop and be assured that it doesn't get reduced, then resize it on your end down to at most 600 pixels in width. Images with dimensions of 600x800 or less aren't modified during the upload process.

- Maximum combined attachment file size is 20MB. That's the total limit for all images attached to a single post.

So, if you don't want the image compressed and only a thumbnail displayed (no download option), then set the horizontal side to 600-pixels (and don't store the original). However, if you process and save your file to 2048-pixels on the long side, and store the original, you'll present an image that can be downloaded and displayed full-screen on any sized display.

There is a problem, I think, in nomenclature. What you really want to do is to make your photo SMALLER in appearance when you post it, am I correct? That's not what resizing refers to.

I am so tempted to crop the bottom from that photo to make the seagull look like a giant.

This one is 1024 pixels wide, so yes, "medium" works well based on our discussion in your other topic, Or if your app allows you to insert the actual number you want, rather than "sm med lg," you can make a bit larger (for example, 2048 as Chg Canon mentions).

For future reference, you do not need to start a new topic when a discussion is already in progress. If you had clicked reply or quote reply anywhere in your other topic, you would have the ability to upload another pic
