I always mostly use auto WB. Found out that was wrong by reading this article on the net.

What is your idea about color settings?

I leave the camera set on AWB because any of my images that are shown or displayed are ran through either photoshop, lightroom or both. I have found that all white balance issues can be solved in PP.
If you are shooting jpegs with no PP, that would be worth looking in to.

I never use AWB and always shoot raw. Main reason is that if I have the wrong WB, I can fix it in LR and then copy the fix to all the photos in the sequence. With AWB set, every photo will need to be WB corrected as the camera decides the WB for every snap....for me its a abiut pp efficiency.
...if you intend to wireless file xfer and upload a jpeg quickly from the camera, then AWB makes sense. If you have a ton of photos shooting all day, pick a WB and use it for every photo. Adjust the WB for major changes in scenes...even if you forget to adjust the WB....they can be fixed quickly in post in bulk.

I use AWB at times not all the time. When the weather keeps changing all the time from cloudy to sunny or shade AWB comes in handy.

I always set the camera to the presets according to the conditions, if I run into some difficult situations, I set the temp in Kelvin!
