I have two. I've probably used Speedliter's Handbook by Syl Arena much more than Mastering Canon EOS Flash Photography by NK Guy.

Excellent book

You can use rechargeable batteries, eneloop are excellent. I have two 580 EX II, and a 580 EX, no problems. There was an advisory about using Lithium (non-rechargeable) batteries that could cause overheating. http://pixsylated.com/blog/do-not-use-lithium-batteries-in-speedlites-canon-advisory/

Thanks for info Peteroff. Great to know. I clicked the link and read also where to buy. Will order today! Tom

Thanks for the info!

I have been using lithium ion batteries for a while now. After reading the article in the link, it appears the only problem is if a person uses the strobe at a high repeat rate. I don't do that. I take one or 2 shots at a time, so I will continue to use them, but forewarned is forearmed.
