I was a bit hesitant about this lens,Tamron 18-400.
It did not perform that great in Iceland,It was always overcast.
Indoors,with a flash,its fine.
To make my final test, I took it to the beach to catch the birds flying, and I took 400 exposures.
Its a keeper!
Some shots from yesterday.

I wished that I could have caught them skimming the ocean.

Looks great! I use a Tamron 150-600 and love it. I have not had the issues you have with low light situations.

It was slow in auto-focus, I guess that I will ger better with that.

A slow zoom will always perform better in good light. It does not mean it is going to do poor in low light like under cloudy conditions. May I suggest that under cloudy condition and shooting JPEG files that you do a custom WB and raise the ISO speed of the sensor for better performance.
I know of this Tamron lens, most recently I saw pictures made with it by a professional photographer during a Tamron workshop here in Miami. The images were of very good quality.
If you do your part the lens should do its part.

Nice series. I like #7 the best, but they are all good shots. I have the Tamron 18-400mm lens that I ordered when they first came out. I haven't been able to get out to do much photography lately, so I haven't really run the lens through its paces. I'm looking forward to next Spring when I hope to be able to get out some more.

I was real happy to see some oyster catchers.
They were talking to one another.

I have always steered away from superzooms, but your pics are great.

These are excellent shots Sparky. I've been waiting to pull the trigger on this lens. I went to NYC for a play this week and wanted to check one out for my Canon at B&H and they don't have any in stock. A friend just got one for her Nikon so I hope to see what it's like. You certainly seem to have it working for you. Thanks for sharing this set.
