G.A.S. Medicine. Thanks to UHH members I've finally decided on an upgrade from my D80. B&H says my refurbished D5500, along with a Sigma 18-35 art series lens will be here tomorrow. Another Question: I have an AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D lens that doesn't work on my D80. Will it work in any capacity on the 5500? Also have an AF Nikkor 28-80mm 1.35-5.6D. Seems like some mighty good glass to go to waste.

I am not a lens expert but my Nikkor 50mm works on my 5500 but there may be different models (mine has an internal AF) As long as it's an F mount, it should at least work manually - either way, my 50mm is my favorite lens to use now and it stays on my camera most of the time!

It's not really medicine. You're only feeding your addiction. You know after tomorrow you will be looking for another fix. I understand. You're among friends, none of whom will try to rehabilitate you.
Enjoy!!

Ouch! Sometimes the truth hurts. It's already nagging at me that my 55-200mm is only a cheap kit lens.

That cheap kit lens has gotten me some good pics - (you can check out my feed and see my initial struggle and then pleasure with it) It is a great practice lens and does quite well on the 5500. (you will love the camera by the way, a pleasure to work with!)

Your 50mm AF-D lens will not autofocus on your D5500 since the camera does not have the screw drive. Only lenses with AF-S (motor in lens) will work on the D5500. You will have to focus manually but the metering should work.

Go for it. The clock of life is wound but once and no man has the power / to know just when the hands will stop, at what time or what hour. / Now is the only time you have so live it with a will. / Don't wait until tomorrow, the hands may then be still.
