The pelicans are brown pelicans. The other type of pelican in the US is the American While Pelican - much larger, does not dive to catch fish, and of course, is white. Also hangs out in fresh water.
The "snake bird" is an anhinga. Called a snake bird because, like loons and cormorants, it does not have heavily oiled feathers and swims under water to chase fish. For this reason it sits low in the water - and its long neck sticking out of the water looks like a snake. It also has to sit and dry out periodically.

Thanks kpmac and thanks for the bird info sb. The guide in the everglades called the anhinga a "snake neck bird". On the internet, most referred to it as a snakebird. I love photographing birds but I am just starting to learn about them so again thanks for the info.

Earlier in the week I missed a shot (or video) of a school of mullet being chased up from something below (locals say probably jacks) and being picked off by 11 pelicans as the water literally boiled from the jumping mullet. Very cool but missed it with the camera (didn't want to run inside to get it and miss the show).
A very nice set, Revet, and have been down a few times, but have yet to get a decent image of a Purple Gallinule----maybe next trip!
