I want to take close-ups of birds. Anyone know the best camera/lens to do that?

The focal length of the lens is more important for this than any particular camera body, at least right now - longer is generally better. However, I note from another post you have an Olympus, but are eventually considering a Fuji, so consider your longer term lens strategy / body compatibility before plunking down any money. Can you use any of your husband's Canon lenses (with an adapter, assuming he has longer lenses), or even borrow his from time to time to practice with?

Also, study the photos here the birders take and see what lenses they used - if they don't state in the post, ask!

Thank you for the advice. I really appreciate it. My husband's camera is a Canon EOS 620 film camera. I used it for several weeks; I shot 4 rolls of film. I'm not even going to develop them. I made a lot of useless pictures. But maybe I can use his lens 100-300mm F1:5.6 on a mirrorless Canon, I don't know. But I am going to wait for Spring 2018 to see what shakes out of the market as far as the best quality, features, and prices.

My husband's Canon will no longer accept a shutter press. I don't know why it won't let me take a picture. I will try to replace the battery soon... maybe that's the problem. I don't know.

Alas, neither a Canon nor an Olympus expert - might be able to find something online, or start a new post and ask the experts here.

And don't worry, we all take a lot of useless shots! But that's how we learn...
