I took these two shots with a camera phone when I was in Charlottesville, Va. to escape hurricane Irma. It shows that sometimes its the camera you have with you. And, that perspective and framing can matter. The second picture seems appropriate for Halloween.
A shame at what we are doing to our history.

For me, the first shot just documents a fact in a rather pedestrian way. In 2017 it is now part of our history that statues are being shrouded. Without getting into the the long story of how we got here (right, wrong or sideways), the second photo is more dramatic--particularly when you know the background. But even if you do not, it is a rather creepy photo to me. With the background, you can then spin the mood into very different narratives about what is haunting America just now (which I will leave to the political scientists).
From a photography standpoint, I am struck by how the first is just an ordinary snapshot but with a change in perspective for me a lot of drama is created. I walked around the statute almost as an afterthought because I did not care for the first photos from that angle. I found it odd to be at the site of the torch scene that had made all the news programs just a few days after the event (something completely unplanned due to Irma).
