I've been using stand-alone LR6 but want to switch to LR 7 and CC so I'll also have PS. I'm wondering if I should anticipate a lot of difficulty with the change or if it'll be pretty simple. I'd appreciate any suggestions you can make. Thank you!

All of the experts that I have read recommend waiting a few weeks for any problems to fall out and be corrected before upgrading.
That is my plan.

I'm on it and it should be a simple process.

That said, the marketing department made it very confusing. From LR6 you want to straight to LR Classic. It has some nice new features. The new "Lightroom CC" is impressive but it is entirely "cloud" based. Lightroom Classic is the one that keeps everything on your computer, in folders, like you are used to.

Sounds like a good idea. I don't need to be a test case!

I really think I want to convert to cloud based. I wish I'd gone with the cloud initially but I didn't even know was available! What are you converting from?

Using classic right now.
Its crashed a couple times but will give it a few days before I pass judgement as it may because of catalog cutovers and trying to do too many things in parallel.
I like the new filter brush....

Sally, it wasn't really available. For some reason only someone at Adobe understands (I assume) the Lightroom CC version that is being replaced is not cloud based.
I am running it and everything is on my computer. It occasionally checks online to make sure that my license is still valid but otherwise does not require an internet connection.
What is now called Classic is the version of the new product that is most like what most of us are used to.
Here is a link to Laura Shoe's explanation of the new Lightroom CC that was just released:

Hope this helps with your decision.

To be clear, there is no Lightroom 7, only Lightroom CC and Lightroom Classic. The numbered versions were sold as standalone software with a perpetual licenses .All versions are now by subscription only.

I have already upgraded and have had no problems with Lightroom classic or Photoshop. Have used both for about ten hours with no problems

Same. No problems with the new Lightroom Classic on my Mac. Except for the new Graduated Filter > "Range Mask", it's just like the old Lightroom that it replaced.

Thanks for the correction. Wish I'd gone with the CC version initially.

Your simple question has a complex answer because "cloud based" suddenly means more and different things.

I have been on the "Adobe Photographer's Plan" for a couple years. Originally, "Photoshop Lightroom 6" matched "Photoshop Lightroom CC". They both worked the same at first, but the CC version gradually added tools. So, in my case, I "converted from" Lightroom CC to Lightroom Classic. In fact, it was a simple, automatic updating.

Last week there was an overhaul in the naming and a brand new product. What we knew as Lightroom is now "Lightroom Classic". You can only pay for it in one of Adobe's CC plans. So, if you've been using Lightroom 5, 6 or CC you can now subscribe and get "Lightroom Classic" and it will look very familiar and work as expected.

But wait! There is now "Lightroom CC". It is an entirely new product but got the old name. It is not at all like the Lightroom we got used to the past several years. The fundamental feature is that it is "cloud" based meaning your images are kept on Adobe servers rather than your computer. The benefit is that all your images you put in the new Lightroom CC can be managed on your phone, tablet or computer. There are a lot of adjustment tools, but not as many as we are used to. It is really aimed at the growing group of mobile photographers.
