First one from the New 70D. About the noise.
Canon 70D
Sigma 100-400 at 400mm
Exposure 1/2500
F 6.3
ISO 4000
I like the Bokeh in this one. I know that this is a subjective question, but what do you think of the Noise?
Thanks, olc
In my opinion, there is way too much emphasis put on bokeh. It is either there or it is not when focusing with any camera. If you like how it performs with your camera, this is all that matters. Now then, I looked at the noise in your photo and to me, it seems to be about average also. Nothing out of the ordinary. The cool thing is that as you learn the camera, you will be able to figure out ways to reduce it. I have seen lots of photos shot in many different lighting conditions taken with the 70D and this camera seems to have the ability to handle noise extremely well. I think you will like this camera very much.

Why such a high shutter speed which drives you to higher ISO and more noise? Instead, how about a shutter speed of 1/1000 (max) and an ISO of 1600? That will produce considerably less noise and should be plenty adequate even without IS. Personally, if I were shooting this, I’d start at 1/500 and ISO 800 (with the IS on) as a starting point.

Indeed, you have a good point about ISO, but I have been told that the 70D can handle much higher ISOs and I wanted to see for myself.

Hey Crazy, have you used your 70D At higher IOS? and what did you think?

My 70D does well with high ISO but the overall under-exposure of the shot also contributes to the noise. If the main subject exposure was increased, you would see less noise.

Btw, looking at the DR charts and low light high performance of your new 70D vs your older 7D, the 70D is similar in DR and about a half stop better in high ISO performance (1597 vs 1170) according to the testing on this link:
http://www.photonstophotos.net/Charts/PDR.htmHaving owned a 7D, I found the noise to be minimal at ISO 1600, visible at 3200 and quite intrusive at 6400. Based on that, I would try to shoot the 70D at or below ISO 4,000 and 2,000 if possible. You can certainly extend the capability by shooting raw and using good noise reduction techniques in PP.
Very good shot, Chefneil!
