October pics this month in Yellowstone. D7100, hand-held, no PP with the exception of a couple being cropped.
They are what they are and auto modes or maybe shutter priority used.
These are wide open for critique/opinions on softness, etc. Just showing some field results.

These are field results and any remarks are welcome and just fine.
Last with D7100
Distant shots with low light.
Any remarks are perfectly appropriate.
Mine has been on backorder since the beginning of the month. can't wait to get it.
Excellent shots! Just saw an article where scientists are claiming--due to the extremely rapid rise of the magma dome--they expect the Yellowstone volcano to blow in a matter of decades, not thousands of years. Hope they're wrong.
I think you'll like it. I haven't used it, but it appears to be roughly 18-140 quality with a longer reach. It's a nice walk around lens, particularly if you don't know where your next subject will be.

It's a guessing game for sure!

DaveO,
May I ask where those Elk shots were taken? I've been researching that lens as well, and am getting serious about making the move. I've read few users with any negative comments about it so far.
Thanks for posting the shots.

The first was on the Blacktail Deer Plateau Drive, the 6 mile dirt road north of Roosevelt Lodge and close to the Northern Range area. I got my first badger in that area as well. The second was just below Mammoth near the camping area on the entrance road for Gardiner.

So these critters were in Yellowstone then?
I liked your comment under "Equipment" about your wife. Mine is exactly the same.

LOL! The hobby for me was her idea to prevent retirement boredom. I haven't had that pleasure in almost seven years and five trips to Yellowstone.
Yes, the pics, except for the bee, were in Yellowstone after spending a few days in the Tetons. We left last Wednesday. She took about 1600 pics and I did 2,000.
Thanks for posting pictures using this lens - I'm seriously considering it.

Good to hear! We think that it is equal to or better than the 18-140 and the reach is much more suitable for our needs.
Thank you Jerry. Here's another taken within a few minutes, close to 5pm with dull skies, untouched jpeg, D500, 200-500 @ 500mm. Not a great shot, but at a long distance. They were on a ridge and high above the road. The Tamron is not bad!
