Get a Canon EFS 17-55mm F2.8, the best EFS lens Canon has ever built.

I agree. When I had my crop sensor Canons this was my favorite lens.

I use the canon 10-22 mm, or 50 mm 1.2, but with a flash unit (580 exii). If you need more then the good ole 24-70 mm will do nicely. Bounce it off the ceiling and adjust the flash power and I think you'll be happy with the results. Maybe use a sto-fen diffuser also.

I find 28mm too tight for indoors especially on my APS-C Nikon. The Sigma 10-20 works fine on that body but vignettes on my FF Nikon. Remember that the effective focal length has a 1.6 multiplier on the nominally designated 28mm lens you are using. Using available light might require that you would need a prime WA lens (F.2.8 or wider with a wider focal length than 28mm)

I have a Canon EOS 7D camera. I would like to get your opinion on what you consider to be "The Best" indoor lens for taking pictures at family events such as Thanksgiving Diner, or Christmas Morning, or the Twins First Birthday. Currently I have a Canon 28-135mm lens, which takes excellent pictures. I am able to use it with and without flash, of course depending on external light.

Your opinions?

Ideally, an 18-55 f/2.8 Zoom. A 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.8 would be helpful, too. It makes a good portrait lens on APS-C cameras, and is good in low light.

I shoot events (both inside and outside) for my AMVETS post (randolphamvetspost51.org). My goto inside lens is an 18-55 because of its wide angle @ 18 and tight close-ups @ 35-55. For my outside work, I use the 28-135, for the most part. For these events, I seldom use and long (up to 250 lenses. This strategy works well for me. :-) <K>

28mm might be tight for a lot of indoor shots on your APS-C camera. If you want a great lens for indoors, might I suggest the Sigma 18-35 1.8 Art lens. It seriously rocks. It is around $799, if I have that right, but well worth it.

Agree. That lens is awesome
