One of the high school games my wife and I went to last weekend was between my high school, Kennebunk, ME and Marshwood High School, South Berwick, ME. The photos are of a Kennebunk player starting a punt return.
You need to show action in your photos. The first shot would be better if you showed the ball coming down and him waiting to catch it. The second shot needs some other players in the photo, the best would be the other team getting ready to or just tackling him. The photos you post could have easily been staged; the other team is not even present.

Here's the thing, unless someone is standing still, there's action. In this particular case, the ball bounced off the ground and he caught it. As you may or may not know, in the first few seconds of a punt or kick return, there is often just the player returning the punt/kick. I purposely wanted just this player in the photos. I wasn't able to get many good shots because of one person or persons in my way. I have learned from this game that even with a long lens, the only place to get good shots is on the field. I would have had to get permission from the Kennebunk AD for that. Attached is one of the few decent multiplayer shots I was able to get. Unless you have any more pontificating to do, have a nice day.

Was only trying to help you. You are terribly sensitive.
Good set, Rob. I've found any sports photography to be just about impossible. I've tried it with baseball - must be just bad reflexes. But I do need to know who won the game. I'm a Marshwood grad.

Thank you, Dennis; I think you should not give up on it though. I was thinking of you when I posted this, knowing where you lived. I'm sure Kennebunk and Marshwood will face each other again in the playoffs.
