Now then, before people jump all over the hand-held-android-poor-lighting image,,, this is just to give a sample of three merged pics fs a stand-back-where-everyone-fits shot.

Didn't come out bad for the purpose at hand.

The resulting image has quite a bit more detail, albeit only snapshot quality to begin with.

This is three prints layered and blended

The Pano feature on my iPhone 7 plus is very easy, and delivers very impressive results.
I never would have thought.

I have used the pano technique several times when shooting large crowds of people, using my 80D and my widest angle sometimes is not just wide enough with no more room to back up, so I will grab 2 or 3 quick shots and merge them together as a panorama - usually works out great.

FWIW - I prefer the look of the pano over the super wide angle when all comes together ;)

Nice replies! Thanks! My android has a pano function, but this lets me get in closer without distortion, as mentioned above. I actually took the three frames from three positions in front of the classmates. Not exactly panning.

You missed one in the wide angle - so pano was the better choice.

remember also that a Pano works vertically too. You can take three or four 'rows' of three or four images and stitch them all into one image. Takes a bit of computer time but it will do it.

Yes. I did a couple falls and Devils Tower that way. Very nice results.

Absolutely. It's too easy on a super wide angle to get vertical line distortion if you are too close to the subjects.

The merged image is much better. I would have tried to get the feet in the pic for the people at the front though.
