Willits and Sundown

The birds, often called sandpipers are Willits, (Willit). I came across this flock taking a break on an outer dock at Farlies State Marina in Atlantic City NJ. As often happens I wasn't looking for a picture so I was not prepared with the correct camera. Shot with a 10 years old older Kodak EZ Share, from a boat.

The Sundown was shot facing NE, with a Canon T3i , 18-55 zoom a
@ about 24 mm. F7.1 ISO 800, 1/60. It was getting dark fast, would have preferred a lower ISO (I think) and I was experimenting with various ISO and aperture settings. My intent was to go small aperture- long exposure but of the 8-10 I shot this seemed best.

The landscape shot has potential - a little light/dark variation in the trees, overall contrast boost and bring out the farm house a tad .... Nice shot...

Thanks for the suggestions.
How, in Lightroom, would I bring out the "farmhouse"?

I'll presume you're referring to my "farmhouse" suggestion and not Jerry's post...

In Lightroom, using the brush tool- small, with a fairly hard edge- and severely enlarging the image so you can see what's going on- make a single pass over the lighter buildings and adjust the sliders for more exposure and contrast. At the same time, add a little blue/green to neutralize SOME of the yellow/pink- the objective being just to brighten it a little to break the horizon line. Close and open the brush tool again, this time, brighten up some of the yellow streaks in the field and catch a few of the brighter cloud edges too... . and some of the vertical reeds at water's edge and yellow grass in the foreground- subtly emphasize the triangular shape of grass to act as an arrow directing the viewer's eye into the scene. Boost contrast over all... kick up the shadows slider and finally, holding down CTL/CMD, run the black slider left/right until there are only a few blacks showing. Use your eye to set the white point.
All-in-all... play it by ear- or eye, rather..

I like your Willits photos and the sunset is really nice.

I have a picture of Willits that I would like to show you if you don't mind.
