Any knowledge about the color for next week? I have plenty of waterfall pics with little color around them. Thanks!

Hmmm...I tried adding this in as a GPS coordinate and wasn't successful. When I tapped on the link google maps took me to I35 a few miles from my home. LOL! What area is this in?
Thanks for you help!

I was in Cades Cove last week. Leaves were just beginning to change. Our weather cooled down this week, so I think the colors will peak this weekend.

It looks like there is a cold snap coming on Wednesday next week. Maybe that will speed things along!
Thanks for your feedback!

Since your going to be in Townsend, try Abrams Creek from the south end of the Park. Little used trail along the creek to the falls. If you have to vehicles, the trail and creek run through to Cades Cove.

Thanks for the tip! Love waterfalls!

I'll be in Townsend, next week-arriving for the Great Smokey Mountains Photo Summit. As suggested, the Cades Cove area of the park is a good start. The Foothills Parkway, back toward Walland, offers some excellent vistas, as does the Newfound gap road going toward Clingmans dome and Cherokee. Here's a link to the park's webpage, which has maps in a downloadable PDF form.

Townsend is the best area to stay, in my opinion-they call it the "quiet side of the Smokies" for a reason

We stayed at a friends cabin in Kodak, Tennessee the last time we went but have stayed in Gatlinburg before as well. Besides images, if you are a fan of the outdoors, be sure to visit the Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville, Tennessee...

Nice pictures! What a quaint cabin. Gatlinburg is a little too busy for me but has great places to eat! My husband will really like the Knife Works....thanks for the tip.

I am looking out the window at the Smoky Mountains now at about 8:30 A.M. and the color is beautiful ----Green. At about 3000ft, no color yet. A few trees are turning yellow, not much reds. Dog woods have turned. My guess about another week or two for full color. Lots of water photo ops, falls and mountain streams. Here it is beautiful no matter what season!

Thanks for the window report! Exactly what I was looking for.

Try the road at Tremont(just inside the park from Townsend and on the way to Cades Cove) to the end. It follows a large creek and gets more spectacular as you get to the end of the road. If you are a hiker there is a trail from there that continues to follow the creek. There is a really nice cascade and lots of small falls along the trail. This trail is an old railroad so it never gets steep.

Also a road that exits the Cades Cove loop is the Rich Mountain Rd. Very nice with some good views of the Cove.

Tremont road is one of my favorites. I have never followed it to the end and then hiked. I am excited that it gets better as you go as it wasn't too shabby at the front. I put Rich Mt. Rd. on the list...haven't been there.
Thanks!

Great Smokey Mountains will be awash in both color and crowds. There are lots of great ops around Brevard, as folks have suggested. I shot there a few years ago, and here is a link to my gallery of North Carolina ... I believe all the photos are labeled for locations. https://timenspace.smugmug.com/Collections/North-Carolina/

I am looking for an opportunity to do some fall color and wondered if any of the hogs have knowledge of the Townsend area and the park. Some of the reports say peak is this week or next. My experience with internet reporting of color is less than stellar. I am also looking for waterfalls in the area or out of the park. Perhaps there is something better than and less crowded than the park would be?
Thanks for your help!

I live 18 miles from Townsend. The Foothills Parkway runs across the crest of Chilhowee Mountain which I can plainly see from my house. The foliage is still green. It may be different in the higher altitudes of the Park. I really don't expect a peak next week. I plan to spend a couple of days in Gatlinburg next week and will make the trip from there to Cherokee hoping for some fall color.

Just a heads up. At this time of year it's so very crowded. Last year at this time, it took us over 2 hours to get from Cades Cove to Gatlinburg when going back thru the park...

According to the park service, the Foothills Parkway and the tower at Clingman's Dome are closed.

Foothills Parkway is open. Clingman's Dome Road is open, but the tower is closed for renovation.

My wife hiked 8 miles near Tremont yesterday, she said mostly green, a few reds, she put peak closer to beginning of November. It has been very warm here up till Monday
