There are some great bird sanctuarys in FL. Ding Darling is my fav. Go early and stay late. I also have good shots from farmers markets, tree canopies over roads, everglades park and campground, Ringling Mansion and museum, dunes, springs, rivers (Suwannee is pretty cool when not flooding.) State parks.
The farms and back-roads have plenty of unexposed scenes you can grab. I have a couple great shots from an abandoned gas station down there.

AND... there's a NEW sunset every night!

Have fun... keep us posted.

You're not that far from the Everglades, are you? Should be plenty of material to shoot there.

Maybe you can be more definitive about what you consider National Geographic type. You aren't going to find too many peeps walking around FL with baskets on their heads.

Ellen, good luck on your journey - on on what ever corner you display your sign. Meanwhile, maybe you could look into the fascinating use of "Quote Reply.". And as for the sign, I suggest you not use the wording, "Starving Photographer Needs Money to Travel to Exotic Places.". Bad Karma!

Plain and simple photography is turning out to be a very expensive interest.
When I do not have my camera with me I feel lost. I need to keep shooting away.
I shoot close ups of people but I have found that most people in Florid do not have
culturally interesting faces of different ethnicity.

I am trying to emulate National Geographic photography without having to travel far.

Any suggestions for person on a fixed income living in Tampa Bay, Florida?

How about close-ups of those Spring Breakers on the beach. Just don't get your teeth knocked out - if you still have any !!

Ellen

"Manhattan NY for Spring Hill, Fl" and Tampa Bay?

Osceola
Ocala
Apalachicola
Big Cyprey
Everglades

You don't have to roam to far to be in some very exotic places!

Forget about the people and look for scenery, animals, strange objects, odd signs, sunrise, sunset.

All the old folks in Florida and you cannot find some interesting faces? You aren't trying hard enough! How about the old Greek sponge fishermen of Tarpon Springs, just north of you, or the Cuban cigar-makers of Ybor City? I always carry a camera with me - and it comes with a telephone! Not as good as the 6D with a 100-400 telephoto, but that one doesn't fit in my pocket!

Hi there. Let us join hands in panhandling :-) I live in Tampa FL too and I understand that this is an expensive hobby. Frankly it was never cheap. I have been coveting Nikon F3, Mamiya, Pentax LX and always found them a little bit out of my reach and now - Nikon D810, 850 et al....it sure is expensive.

Look for the lower socioeconomic areas where people struggle to live. Need I say be careful.
