Hybrids surely have affected apples as they are poisoning all of our food chain. I think that the main reason apples were bigger in the past is because the farmers trimmed the trees and only allowed so many apples on a tree. The more apples on the tree, the smaller the size and the apples get bigger as you lower the total number of apples on the tree. Surely, some suit in accounting somewhere discovered that you make more money with the smaller apples than the great big juicy ones; like we used to have as kids.

I won't make a list. With few exceptions, all products are better, more efficient, and more convenient than in the "good old days".

Maybe a list of "things about the past" that we DON'T remember fondly, would have ALSO been interesting, but I don't believe he was insincere about the past stuff HE thought was great. I too have many fond memories of past things/ conditions that are no-more, that I often pine for. not the least of which, was the people in my life that BOLSTERED me and my dreams. It's a hard place out there these days Life starts to burn-out rather quickly in our ADVANCED years. Holding on to fond memories any more is impaired by our weakening capacity to REMEMBER ANYTHING.. Have a nice day, and good luck along the "burn-out.... RJM

back then for me was 1944-1965. I did just fine with what we had.
1 food that tasted like it was supposed to taste.
2 a street car and bus system that took me from one end of Cleveland Ohio to the other.
3 the ability to live from birth to 30 without a car.
4 free admission to the zoo and aquarium.
5 pay phones everywhere.
6 army/ navy surplus stores that seemed to have everything.
someone else can make an opposing list.

Many of my memories of the past are also Rose colored. Keep the good thoughts. RJM P.s. For Bull Drink Water++++=== see foto

To this day I still love wandering through an Army/Navy surplus store. So many memories. When I was young most all of my camping equipment came from a Yellow Front Store in Phoenix.

I think It is more about what used to be. We do tend to get off topic on the forum! 😁

I didn't actually get off topic...A hogg named Bull drink water Said something, I thought he might like to look at a South African Bull -drinking- water. Why must someone always get their nose all bent out of joint over some slight infraction. It gets TEDIOUS.. Sorry for this additional infraction... LA LA LA!!

60 yrs ago I use to eat red apples that were almost as big as a grapefruit. what ever happened to them? all I see now are medium size apples some with almost no taste.

And believe it or not, there are more than 200 varieties of apples.

Maybe it was all perspective since you were mich smaller, the apples seemed bigger. Or, it may have been that the Apple was so much closer to the camera in those days.

you are the second person to say that. in 1950 I was 5:10 and weighed 240 lb's .

Could it be that you were a boy then and what appeared to be such big apples is because your hands were smaller than they are now?

BULL, mot things had a longer life span and could be fixed. today too many things have a shorter life span and are throw away. lifetime doesn't mean what it used to.
