The best way to Support The Troops is to join up and serve along side them.
If you are unable or unwilling to provide that measure of support, contact your elected officials and demand that the VA be fully funded.

as a wounded Viet Nam vet, I can say that for the last 10 years the VA has taken care of me. never a problem at the Hines VA hospital. I wonder what the hospital does that other hospitals just can't seem to do right.

I've thought a lot about this subject, and I now feel that the best solution is to get rid of the VA hospitals and give government support payments to regular hospitals when veterans are treated. The VA hospital system seems to be a boondoggle, and I know a number of vets who have gone to VA hospitals and complained of poor treatment, diagnoses, etc., and have returned to the regular medical system for their treatment. This system seems to me to be a better, more economical solution to an ongoing, increasingly significant problem. I've discussed this idea with several vets that I know, and they all agree with the idea.

Like 3dees, I am well taken care of by the VA. My VA care is at least, if not more, thorough than what I have received from civilian medicos. From what you say, I take it that you are not speaking of problems with the VA from personal experience. I am sorry that your friends are having problems with the VA. I am not saying the VA is perfect, but from my experience with the VA, first in Pennsylvania and now in Florida, the VA does a great job.

I use medicare and supplement insurance. Don't have to drive 90 mi.and spend all day. Back operation was $105000.00 I paid $147.00 mostly because didn't send a form back to bcbs in time. Get quicker service. All I pay is meds but get enough comp from V A to well cover that $200.00 a month.

Wann'a support our troops? Bring back the draft! It is criminal to keep sending the same people back into harms way over and over and over and over again.

I agree that the draft needs to be brought back, for the reason you mentioned and because it's everyone's country and everyone should serve it.

I have a question. what's worse, going over and over with time between to be with family, or 13 months straight like we did in Viet Nam? don't know if the draft would solve anything, but it would sure prompt a heck of a lot protests.------------------+++++++++*

The draft would spread service over the population more evenly instead of concentrating it on a few. Also the draft would eventually result in more members of Congress having served, which would make Congress less willing to cut funding for things like the VA, dependent housing, pay, etc.

Mac - I agree with you about the draft. That way the duty to serve America is spread more evenly. I know the military isn't as strict as it was when I was drafted in WWII, then called back to service in the Korean War, but it would teach some younger citizens there's more to life than your cellphone. It would teach a needy bunch of citizens about responsibility to one's country, comradeship and life isn't always a gravy train.

AMEN! on the idea of a nationwide draft.

Oh yeah, as the world police it's not enough for the military budget even though it is more than half of the full federal budget expenses while we have impoverished, hungry people that need medical assistance here.
