...ICBM. For all the ones that know and use ML just complete the above sentence. Please feel free to expand. Sometimes the best things are FREE.

For those that don't know yet, well explore Magic Lantern and say WAAAHOOOO!!!

I like ETTR for RAW, focus stacking, intervalometer, trap focus, zebras, to name a few and it's saved me big bucks, as opposed to buying accessories that don't necessarily function as good as the program. And before the fear mongers that haven't used it start spewing about the ML liability disclaimer, the fact is that NO CAMERA HAS EVER BEEN BRICKED BY IT. It is loaded on the memory card root and runs alongside Canon firmware. The worst that has happened is the occasional bug causing a hang that require turning off the camera, then removing the battery; replacing it after a few seconds and reboot. Because it it an ongoing continuous project of benevolent IT wizards, their nightly builds are constantly being refined.

Agreed. A ton of excellent features at no charge, and as you stated, no danger to the camera. You can invoke it at any time by just pressing the delete button, and uninstall it easily if you don’t like it for some reason.

ML is great for the models that it has been implemented on. The additional functionality is excellent and it is stable in my experience. It seems to combine some of the best features of mirror less cameras with OVF DSLRs. I've been using it for a couple of years with no problems. I wonder why Canon doesn't add the functionality itself, it would appear to be a competitive advantage. Sadly it mostly only works on older models, such as our T2i and T3i, would love it on the 80D.

Yep, I keep looking to see the progress. In some ways I see ML functionality to be on the critical path for future enthusiast / professional cameras, a fusion of DSLR and mirrorless. Clearly the camera electronics are capable now, it's simply a matter of coding. There's part of me that wants to get hold of a Canon exec and shake him (or her - unlikely given the culture) warmly by the throat and say "Why are you not thinking? This would be good for both bridge and ILC sales and competitive advantage, just do it!"

However, that isn't the Japanese way!

If it resides on the memory card, does it need to be reinstalled every time the card is formatted?

.

No. It handles that seamlessly, so long as you format in the camera.

I'm not going to get involved with your predilection towards robots, but the short answer is no. 6D mk I, yes, but most newer Canon models are not yet - and may never be - covered.

That was supposed to be not robot, as in robot reply filter. But thanks for the response. I figured the software would be quite different between the 6d and the 6DII... sadly no magic for me.

Since it is an open source skunk works project, we have to wait for motivated individuals with access to the cameras and the time and motivation. Takes a while with the newer DIGIC processors. No 80D either. Works very well on T2i and T3i however...
