The mighty Mississippi.
My first glimpse of the Mississippi! Very special moment.
We walked to the river from our airbnb at Arabi, can see the city skyscrapers of New Orleans in the background.
Loving Arabi. No tourists, great shotgun houses, lots of Halloween decorations already. Walking the streets is great. Photo ops. ever where.

What is a ‘shotgun house,?
I would like to know also.
People might take the name to mean a house shot at by hunters with shotguns leaving all kinds of pellet holes in the wooden exterior.
Oh. A shotgun house has nothing to do with guns. There are many of these houses in New Orleans. They are narrow houses with no hallway. 3 to 5 rooms, one behind the other, with a door at each end of the house.
Beautiful perspective of New Orleans. Thanks for sharing...hope you have a gay ole time here in the USA. Looking forward to more from you.
Thank you for the explanation; makes me think back to the narrow houses of the 1930's before WWll. they were called Railroad cars style. Having three to four bedrooms in a row with two doors each, one to enter, one to leave into another room etc.
I too found the Mississippi River to be amazing when I saw it for the first time in my life 14 years ago. Having been in the Navy, I thought the Atlantic was amazing to see and sail across it.
Also, a note on Shotgun houses. So named because you could shoot a gun through the front door, and out the back door without hitting anything. We are staying in a cute shotgun house (half a house) for 2 nights.

Sounds like you're having a ball, Jude.
Looks like you are having a good time in our fine state. There is much more to see than New Orleans. I hope you get to see it.
Glad to see you've started your trip here, hope it's a great one. I like your shot of the developing thunderheads over NOLA.
Looking forward to more pics and your impressions of where you visit.

Kind of sounds like the old Company Houses. Coal mine companies built them an rented them to the employees. The company took the rent out of your paycheck. Most employees also shopped at the Company Store on credit. That also was deducted from your paycheck.
Thus, Tennessee Ernie Ford's song, "I Owe My Soul To the Company Store."

G'day Earl, we are. Hey are these pics coming through ok? Shock horror I can only post pics I've taken with my phone. Wondering about the sizing.
Thats so interesting, thanks. I know that song, makes me want to listen and take in the lyrics. Did you work in those coal mines?
