You guys are more knowledgable than me but my Red dot is way smaller on my hot shoe than this. I understand there are hundreds of models though.

my SVBONY arrived. For me it sits 2-3 inches above the camera attached to the hot shoe similar to the image that you are replying to. The hot shoe adaptor adds an easy inch and is the only weakness -- I wish it had a tighter, more solid fit to the hot shoe itself. I wish the square plate that goes into the hot shoe was a hair larger - might be able to figure something out to improve that...

But anyway, my thanks go out to the many that explained how this works. I LOVE it. Aiming is unbelievably more natural, probably the best bucks I have spent on my camera. It is now very easy to know where the camera is pointing, much easier than looking through the view finder.

Gerber's solution (page 5) is, by far the best and most reliable of the solutions; the Allen head screws can be obtained at Home Depot (in those little drawers in the fasteners aisle). I used such a system to secure the mounts (2) on my custom rifle. BUT, in the meantime, there are a couple of temporary solutions:. (1) If you have a base mount or base mount adapter that is relatively inexpensive, buy 2; either peen the edges (and file as necessary) or use a pin punch to make a minute concave or convex curve in the temporary mount to tighten it enough to get by with (NOTE: the operative word here is MINUTE; you don't want to distort your flash shoe, just put slight pressure on the top and bottom edges of the shoe rails, OR (2) use VERY SMALL wedges rapped into the rear gap between the mount and the shoe. BE VERY CAREFUL; TOO MUCH OF EITHER SOLUTION COULD DISTORT THE SHOE RAILS ENOUGH TO PREVENT PROPERLY MOUNTING A FLASH OR TRIGGER!
