As time has gone on, I experimented with how to photograph these jackrabbits. The big ears seem to take up much room so I have had to be a bit creative. All taken at Sacramento Wildlife Refuge with either a D3300 or P900.

Those are excellent shots, Katy. Really nicely done. I've spent many hours at the Sac Refuge, and auto tour loop is phenomenal. You can often get quite close to birds and animals that would be difficult to photograph at other areas.
Your pictures reminded me of a time when my wife and I were headed for my deer lease. She was born and raised in N. Ireland and since she had never seen a deer before except in pictures I had given her a number of talks on what to expect and also that a buck had horns and a doe didn’t. As we were driving down a dirt road to the lease a big jack rabbit jumped out in front of the truck and took off down the center of the road. My wife exclaimed, “look at that big rabbit and it’s a buck too. Look at those horns.” I almost drove into the ditch I was laughing so hard.
