I was on a motorcycle ride last weekend and at a rest stop I pulled out my Nikon D750 to take a photo of the group and got laughed at for using a real camera! The smart phones are taking over the younger generation.

Now challenge them to compare their photos with yours!
Behind their laughter is a lack of knowledge of photography.
I did this a while ago with one of my grandsons: "You're old-fashioned, Oma!" "Well, I'm sorry, bud, I don't even own a smartphone, I use and old-fashioned flip-phone!"
We then each took three photos of the same three subjects - I won hands-down and grandson was convinced that a smartphone is handy, but the photos not nearly as good as those with a real camera!
I have experienced the same thing. when those kids get to my age their kids will tell them still using an I-Phonw LOL tech moves on.
I understand that a lot of young photographers are using film. what goes around comes around
I have reached the age where, unless you are going to pay my bills, I don't care what you think.

Who cares what others think?!?!
And how do you know they were laughing at you and not something else? And if they were laughing at you how do you know it was because of your camera?
And if they were laughing at you because of your camera, why would you let that bother you?
Maybe you're just too sensitive.

While at the Apple Store last Friday, an employee took a snapshot of me to demonstrate the quality of images taken with an I Phone 7. Enlarged on my IMac, the detail is so impressive that, out of sheer curiosity, I ordered a 20" by 30" print of the image from Costco.
I will pick the print up later today; and follow through on this thread with my impression.
Smart phones may be taking over---with good reason.

So they were showing their ignorance, so what? Maybe I'm showing mine as I don't use my phone photos for anything more than taking notes. But until a phone can control manual focus in a crowded area and blur foreground and background and zoom 300mm they won't replace my SLR or DSLR.

I guess if an Apple iPhone was the only camera I wanted I’d buy the best iPhone there is. Perhaps the new X when it comes out. I only use it for fun FB pics.
My Nikon is my camera that I love. I belong to the Orlando camera club. I enjoy meeting pro and hobbiest photographers. It would be a bit embarrassing showing up bragging about how your iPhones better than a Nikon D500 with a great lens.

The same people who use picsart to change their photos, adding thicker eyebrows and angeldust and claim they have mastered photoshop, sad part is lot more people really believe that
Funny, but I had the opposite reaction when photographing a 90th birthday party for my cousin’s father. One older guest said it was so nice to see someone using a real camera, instead of sticking a cell phone in her face.

You got laughed at because you don't do what they do. The smart phones are taking over not only the younger generation. Some young people do use cameras not phones.
