Hi friends.

I am an artist-a painter-and I've used photography to collect information for my paintings and drawings since I was a teenager. That was oh-so long ago. All that time I've been telling myself I was just using photography to support my paintings, but I have finally admitted to myself that I would like to be a competent photographer as well.

I have no grand aspirations. I just want to improve my photography. I do love to play with cameras and fiddle with dials and modes. I only had one photography class in college and that was using a twin-lens reflex camera that I rented until I got my Canon AE-1. I did take part of a class from our local photo shop, but the instructor went too fast for me and I dropped out.

Over the years, photographing the animals I paint, I realized my eye was improving and I actually was developing a little savvy. I am now looking forward to adding some skills to my tool set.

I've signed up for a couple of courses here and I'm excited to grow.

You've come to the right place. We're all either amateurs or pros masquerading as amateurs. Either way you can sort out the best of both worlds and learn a lot. By and large this is a friendly group. Occasionally (actually, rarely) someone has a bad day, but it's not worth getting upset over. Just grin and move on. Welcome aboard the good ship UHH.
