How I characterize photographers or image makers. Just my thoughts. Yours may be totally different. If so, we are all entitled to our thoughts and opinions. My thoughts are that most UHH members fit into 2 thru 4?

1. SNAPSHOOTERS- They may occasionally get a camera out. Even then keep it all “wrapped up” preserving it for who knows what. On vacation they make a quick stop at a Kodak Camera spot, shoot a couple shots usually with a family member in foreground looking at camera. Have no regard to composition, include trash cans, electric poles or whatever else is there. They jump back in car and off to next iconic spot. They are making a record of having been there. That is OK if that satisfies them.
2. ADVANCED AMATEUR--->SEMI PRO.(WEDDINGS, SPORTS TEAMS ETC.) – These shooters know their equipment and have regard for subject matter, lighting, and composition. If time is not a factor they will weigh the possibilities, attempting to get an image or images pleasing to themselves and others. If it is personal shooting they have only themselves to please.
3. FINE ARTS AND GALLERY PHOTOGRAPHERS. Very meticulous. Fine art photos I usually do not understand. These artists are usually looking for images that will sell.
4. FULL TIME PRO- They must be able to produce a product that will satisfy their client in order to exist. May not be the type of photography they prefer and probably rarely get to shoot for themselves.

Hey shooter, I guess i am a 1, a definite amateur, shooting family and being an avid gardener, really love to shoot plants and landscapes. I am guilty of not carrying my camera enough to shoot those opportunity shots. With some of the new quality compacts coming out, I am researching one to carry all the time.
All the best - bob

I was going to say I'm not really a 1, I do try but at times unsuccessfully, but you would have remove the word Advanced for me to be close to a 2. So I guess you could say I'm working becoming a 2. I'll be retiring in a year or so and hopefully I'll be much closer to a 2 by then.

I guess I'm a 2 minus .50. That means I take a camera with me and don't keep it put up, I'm learning different settings and still have a lot to learn. In the last 1 1/2 years, I got to practice shooting 2 bridal showers and 2 weddings on a personal bases. I personally think most people on here are at least a 2+, quite a few go into the 3 or 4 catagory.

WOW, this is not fair! I now carry my camera everywhere, and try to look for that special shot, or a new angle. I don't do anything else, so full time into my hobby. But i do shoot family and scenery, and don't spend hours and hours trying to fix the little details. I've never made money on anything, but have donated a few photos for display or on the TV weather forcast. I guess you'll have to decide what number I am, but I prefer to say I'm just a crazy photographer with nothing better to do with my life.

I think I am a 1.2, I'm study a lot and hope to get to a 1.5 in a couple months. i think I had more fun being a .50, still have those pictures taken on Route 66, they are wonderful memories and the family loves seeing them. Sometimes I didn't cut the heads off..This site is so wonderful, so much talent, kindness and humor..
