I received an e-mail from Amazon this morning that they can no longer supply me with Canon CLI-8C (cyan) ink for my Pixma 9000 Mark II printer. It was ordered on 9/28 along with a cartridge of photo magenta. Apparently the PM is available - however even though I ordered it on 9/28 I will not receive the PM until 10/23-11/2. As I look around I see CLI-8C available for over $20 a cartridge. What is happening? And, where do others obtain their Canon inks? I recently ordered 12 cartridges of BCI-21 ink for my Canon MultiPass C5500 Copy/Fax at a grand total of $7.92, shipping included, from Inkcartridges.com - am about to purchase ink for my Pixma from them. Ideas? Suggestions?

Try LC products, I have used their canon carts for many years, always worked just as good, and you will be surprised of the prices. Swift Ink is another I have been using lately and have had no trouble, their customer support is great and even a little less costly than LC products.

I gave up on Canon inks years ago and have never had a single issue with Inkcartridges for my Pixma Pro 9000 II and MPH 560. Just be very careful in opening and mounting the cartridges as it is very easy to spill and it takes days to get it off your skin!

Just what I needed to hear, I have a Canon PIXMA PRO-9000 Printer. So far I have been getting reamed at Staples.

Go to Adorama.com. They still have full sets of ink for your printer as well as individual tanks. The full set is $137.99 with free shipping. Individual tanks are from 15 - 18 depending on the color. I didn't check B&H but I imagine they have it also.

Does anyone know how this compares to Swift Ink prices?

My area Staples gave up selling Canon inks about a year or so ago. When I spoke to the manager they said there was not enough demand anymore. So I went to the local photography store that once sold them. They said "Why sell ink to our competition?" You see they like to sell prints to customers and selling ink seemed to be counterproductive in their eyes. I have been a hold out for using Canon ink - but now I have decided to use alternatives. Thanks for all of the advice. I knew I would get some quickly. Paul

I use inktechnologies.com. I just got a full set for 108.00 shipped. I have tried off brand inks and they don't work well with my PRO-9000. they are ok with my Pixma 4000.

A question: Was the supplier Amazon itself or someone in the Amazon market place?

The ink seems to be available directly from Canon and many other sources. There may be nothing going on at all. The Pixma Pro 9000 mark II is a very solidly built printer, and unless the print head fails will deliver excellent results for many years. The only downside that I have discovered with Canon printers is the cost of a replacement printhead, and you can usually get a brand new printer, with ink for the cost of a print head from the regular deals that are available.

Personally I choose to use Canon inks, and have experienced no problems finding ink. I keep at least a full set available at all times. There are plenty of third party inks available. There is no commercial incentive for Canon to stop supplying ink for their printers. So there may be some small supplier issues in terms of stocking inks, but is there any real evidence that ink availability for Canon printers is a problem?

My Canon printer that I bought in 2005 and lasted until the print head died in 2012 still has Canon and third party ink available for it. Has anybody else had problems finding ink for Canon printers, either from Canon or third parties.

If you don't mind refilling your cartridges to save even more money you can do what I do. I use Precision Colors for my Pro-100. They have their ink made custom by Image Specialists, a maker of inks for the professional printing industry and if I remember right some of the OEM cartridge brands.

http://www.precisioncolors.com/

Click on the Canon tab, click on 8 tank, click on CLI-8, pick your model and click on refill kits. You get a choice of 5 kits.
On another tab you can buy single or sets of refillable cartridges so you don't have to modify a set of old ones. You do have to transfer the chips off an old set of OEM cartridges. I kept three sets for backups that I removed from OEM inks I used the first year I had my printer. Transfer of the chips is easy.

If you browse the site you will find they have a full range of accessories etc for your printer 16oz bottles of ink are $21, that is a lot of refills. They have ICC profiles, tutorials etc.

When you can get a full set of inks for less than $10 why would anyone pay over a $100? (unless they buy into the hype of archival ink). I ran comparisons of printing pixma pro 9000 II with all genuine canon and the cheap ink and I could not identify a single difference in multiple prints of different types of subjects and on different papers too.

I have used Ink Farm for years-no problem. Some say 3rd party inks s crew up printers. I have not found that to be true. But I don't print professionally. If I did I would bite the bullet and use Canon Ink.
