Can you imagine the devastation in LV had this man had silencers on his guns? But that bill was going to go thru Congress this week. It's being postponed because of "optics." Optics? Ugh, but it's the truth.

A silencer on an automatic weapon would have only lessened the noise by a few decibels... It would still have been easy to hear....Don't be fooled by TV & movie depictions as they are fabricated for effects.
This is not the time to talk about guns and it never will be.

I'm very much against silencers. There was a doctor in my state who hired someone to shoot his wife. The shooter used a silencer, the dr. made it in his workshop, and killed her. He was standing outside while the woman was on the phone. The dr., a heart dr, almost got off. LV was a loud venue, music, thousands of ppl... Why does anyone need a silencer except for nefarious reasons?

It's never the time, that's why we have these problems. We have to speak up. Legislators listen if they think their job is in peril.

Most of the people in the kill zone had no idea where the shots were coming from regardless (acoustics in the situation would prevent this silencer or not).
I do disagree with you this point: silencers probably would have delayed the recognition on the ground that this was indeed gunfire and not part of the show. Perhaps a marginal difference (I was not there and I presume you were not either) but a difference nonetheless.

More laws aren't going to stop the carnage. Enforcement of laws already on the books & better mental health care will go a long way to improving things. The weapons ban that was in place during Clintons tenure as president did little to stop deaths. See the " Studies on effectiveness of the legislation" in this Wiki link

No, I wasn't there but a good friend (who had graduated & played soccer with my eldest son) was backstage and had played soon before it started.

Privacy laws are the reason. We can't identify them due to HIPA regulations thus that is a big hindrance...

Not good enough. Why would a logical man overrule this executive action? (Notice, I'm giving a lot here, I'm calling Trump, logical!)
The problem, I think, lies in the definition of Mentally Ill ...
