As an Iowan, I think all states should adopt a non-political commission to redraw districts when needed to conform to census results, etc. Illinois is a prime example.

Just Google the 2011 redistricting maneuvers of Madigan.

I agree with your idea, but I sense a problem or two in implementation; the current us vs. them mentality in politics, and in society in general will make that goal like Sisyphus rolling the rock up the mountain-- attainable, but not likely. Also, I would wonder about the selection process of commision members. Should they be appointed or elected positions, and how do you guarantee non-partisan members? Just one of several issues that plague our society today. We need new, unifying, intelligent (leaves out you know who) leaders that can put well-being of the nation ahead of partisan old-school style politicians.

Not sure if that is possible today. Our system has been in place over a decade.
