I just picked up the infamous D850 from samys I have lbeen ooking forward to using this beast on fall colors.
It took me a day or so to realize how tight the lens mount actually was, well it is at least 2x tighter then d810 ever was and makes a slight grinding noise on all my lenses.
Then after reading on the internet that didgloyd had found that some hard stop lenses will not focus to infinity. So I decided to test out my zeiss lenses on night sky stars wide open and found the that at wide open I could not get two of my lenses to focus at infinity? And the others where super close but just barely focused.
Some may ask why would anyone need to focus to infinity wide open? Only reason I do is for widescape Astro, and then this becomes an issue. Even so the tight lens mount is enough for me to return it.
I feel quality control with most things these days is lackluster at best! Be it cameras, lenses, or anything.
out of the four zeiss lenses I bought, 2 were broken. I still need to send one in. Never have I had an issue with Nikon lenses. And this is the first camera I have ever had a problem with,
The old saying you get what you pay for is a bit out dated for me.

I never have problems with my Pentax gear, or Nikon and Schneider View Camera and Enlarging lenses. How does one get bad Carl Zeiss equipment?

Poorly packaged or careless delivery?
That's too bad. Hopefully they won't be overwhelmed with returns to the point replacements get back logged.

Have you contacted Samys??
This may be an outlier -one of two that slipped through QC

I think his theory is that there is a problem with the mount.

I am not sure how anyone buys a broken zeiss less, but I bought 3 zeiss lenses from Samys a 15 2.8 sluggish iris according to zeiss. A zeiss 21 2.8 super tight mount and a CPU replacement, and then a zeiss 25mm no problems. 1 out of 3 good ones?
The boxes looked a bit smashed on every thing I have bought there.
Then I bought a Nikon d810A excellent.
Then I bought a D 850 box looked dented I bought it anyway but camera mount is tight and grinding? This could be some kind of samys thing. I would not normally buy anything with a dented box but it is a 7 hour drive for me. All shopping I will do someplace else?? Any theories could this be a store thing?

I contacted them they are going to return it and give me my money back. There policy is 14 days or less and less the 200 clicks
The box was quite squashed but not to the point that the camera is damaged ? This seems like QC.

What is an outlier?
Could samys be selling defective gear?

Sorry, it’s a term from statistics.
A outlier is a “sample point” which doesn’t fit the pattern, so I was saying that they might have produced 9998 perfect ones - and then two duds.
Why do we have to listen and read about all this garbage. Nothing to do with photography.Just letting everyone know someone has a D850. How many people that claim they have one really don't? Status symbal. The photographer takes the picture, not the camera.

You don't have to. And you certainly don't have to waste your time complaining about it. But since you do nothing but complain about what everyone else is doing, you obviously have some kind of issues. Where you never picked to play on a team in the playground and haven't gotten over being left out?
Truly a sad case.

You don't have to read if you don't want to. There is no photography without a camera and the OP was talking about camera and lenses. Do you know anyone who claimed to have one that really don't? Not much of a status symbol that is worth to lie about. You can't take the pictures without a camera. A camera could take a pictures by itself.
